You are in charge, not the machine! This 8900QCP has what you need and more without clutter or complexity. For example, the stitches you use all the time are not buried in menus, you don’t end up crossing your fingers hoping the automatic needle threader will actually put the thread through the needle, and you don’t waste precious sewing minutes waiting for the presser foot to go up after you find then press some button on the front. I have several newer, fancier machines that have this or that bell or whistle, but I find that many supposed features or advances are actually temperamental or inefficient. Here are some things I especially like about the 8900 QCP: * The AccuFeed (dual feed) system feeds the upper and lower layers of fabric flawlessly. I personally think that a dual feed foot system is the most useful advance in sewing machine capability in years and I wouldn’t want a machine without it. I have tried the dual feed systems from many brands and the Janome one is better than most. The AccuFeed Flex is Janome’s second-generation dual feed foot system. * The knee lifter for the presser foot is super handy for quilting and garment sewing because you can keep both hands on your work. Knee lift is another feature I wouldn’t be without. * The large space to the right side of the needle, the huge extension table, the ease of dropping the feed dogs, and the many feet designed for Free Motion Quilting make this an ideal machine for quilters, from piecing through quilting and binding. * The needle threader is great! It’s mostly mechanical which means it’s not fussy. It works for a large range of needle types and sizes. * The automatic lock stitch and automatic thread cutter are convenient and work well. * There are utility stitches and buttonholes for every application, and the maximum stitch width of 9mm gives the very pretty built-in decorative stitches a lot of impact. I have been sewing garments and quilting for 50 years (!) and have used a lot of different machines. This is the machine I chose for my daughter as the best combination of quality, capabilities, and ease of use to help her build her skills. It worked! We are selling the 8900 QCP because she is getting a machine with embroidery capability and doesn’t have space in her apartment to keep both.
