eBay MAXFIELD PARRISH (1870-1966) & HIS SON JOHN DILLWYN PARRISH (1904-1969) SIGNED CHECK, “Maxfield Parrish” & endorsed on the reverse: “Pay to the Order of First National Bank of White River Jct. Vt. John Parrish”, 8.25 x 3, The Windsor County National Bank check, January 6, 1964, “Pay to the order of John Parrish”, $106. The check is completed and boldly signed by Maxfield Parrish, the American painter and illustrator known for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery and boldly endorsed by his eldest son, John Dillwyn Parrish, who began drawing animals at age 8 and was considered to be the sure successor to his father, but something went wrong. Dillwyn had talent but measured it in terms of the amount one could earn. When he didn’t quickly make that money, he gave up painting and drifted from job to job, at one point selling cars. He resented how successful his father had been and how unsuccessful he was, and finally drank himself to an early death.
