One of Rolex's most distinct and high-end sport watch collections, the Yacht-Master has in its short history flown under the radar, along the way securing itself as one of the most underrated Rolex watches available today. This is a rare Yacht-Master in Rolesor – that is, 18k yellow gold and stainless steel – in the 1999 introduced ref. 168623. While somewhat weighty via its partial gold construction, the two-tone watch wears more like a dress watch than a traditional sport watch. Measuring 35mm by 11mm in Rolex's midsize diameter making it perfect for those with smaller wrists, the watch sits low and tight in its wear, with a curvy profile that more closely resembles the classic Rolex Oyster case design rather than the sharper “Super” profile found on most modern Submariners. While familiar maybe in terms general design, the 168623 is nonetheless Rolex's expression of a more refined luxury sport watch, as such including a yellow gold bi-directional bezel in addition to its stainless steel case, as well as a 50 meters water resistance and a screw-down crown protected by crown guards. The Original Dial: Rolex dials are the most wonderful and exquisite examples in the World packed with simplicity and pure elegance. This charming sunburst blue dial has raised gold baton and dot markers with a triangle marking the 12th hour. This discontinued dial is difficult to find and quite sought after by collectors. It contrasts beautifully with the solid gold bezel and is full of character and Rolex charm. The original gold hands and lollipop centre sweep seconds hand complete the dial perfectly. The applied outer chapter ring has a minute track featuring aged 1/5th increments. The dial is signed ‘Rolex Oyster Perpetual Date ’ below ‘12’ with Yacht- Master iSuperlative Chronometer Officially Certified above ‘6’ and Swiss Made at the very bottom. Applied Gold Rolex coronet sitting proudly at ‘12’ with date window at ‘3’ o clock featuring cyclops lens. This dial is in good overall condition with some micro marks commensurate with age and wear only noticeable under x4 loupe magnification. The Original Case: The classic 35mm mid sized Rolex Oyster Perpetual waterproof case in steel features down turned lugs.
